Captain’s Day 2023

Captain, Rob Axon, decided to give us a verbal tour of Warrington, funnily enough I can't seem to remember any of the facts but he did us proud.

The course at Warrington really is top class and was well received by both members and guests.

The event was a huge success and it was only enhanced by having Les Ashcroft back with us, he’s been a member for over 50 years so it was fantastic to see him at Warrington for Captain’s Day. He brought a MAGS paperweight that he’d received at an event in 1982, nice to see a bit of the history of the society.

100 Club winners from July, winner Declan McKenna - £50, second place Chris Leyland - £30 and last but not least David May - £20.

Monty Milner, Les Ashcroft, Brian Child, Colin Axon

The highest score on the day was David May but again he had to leave before dinner so he was unable to win a prize. This meant the winner on the day was Declan McKenna with 37 points. Good scoring made this a tight event, Brian Child finished with 36 points and David Lawson on 35.

Front and Back 9 went to Jim Sinclair Smith and Mark Johnston, both with 19 points respectively, nearest the pins prizes went to Clive Allen and David Lawson and congratulations go to Cookies guest Ibi who won guest prize with 36.

Ken Buckley

The high chief, the grand master, the daddy of MAGS, Ken Buckley is a golfing powerhouse with a big heart. Be warned though, cross him at your own risk, he’s got a mobile phone and he’s prepared to pester you until he gets what he wants.
